As part of the discussion, author John Horvat presented considerations based on his book, Return to Order: From a Frenzied Economy to an Organic Christian Society—Where We’ve Been, How We Got Here, and Where We Need to Go. His talk was titled “The Benedict Option and a Return to Order.”

Mr. Horvat looked at the proposal of those who say that one should imitate the strategy of Saint Benedict of Nursia who in the sixth century withdrew to an intensely liturgical life in isolated monastic communities “far from both decadent Rome and raging barbarians. It is what some conservatives are now calling the Benedict or B-Option—to flee from society, get off the grids and live out our Christian lives on our own terms.”

  • I like this idea as I find I am disengaging from many things over the past several weeks and don’t miss any of it. I hardly watch any tv, I don’t listen to the radio, I probably will give up my iphone and go back to a flip, I can’t stand anything in this modern sewer. I listen to my bible cd’s because I just want the truth.
