A university in Michigan is hosting a blasphemous image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in one of its buildings.
The three-part display, titled “Petalos De Cambio” (“Petals of Change”), depicts three different renditions of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Plastered across the image (including on the face and mantle of the figure) are vulgar, woke, and pro-homosexual slogans in Spanish, including “trans,” “sexuality,” “fa**ot,” and “homophobia is lethal.” One image has “My son is homosexual” spelled across the face, while another image has a large, red “X” over the features with a gun pointing at the figure.
Grand Valley State University (GVSU) bought the image from one of its students, and displayed in its student centers. After public backlash from local Catholics, the school removed the offensive piece. However, reports now indicate the image is on display in the provost’s office. According to reports:
“Officials at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in west Michigan reinstalled a blasphemous ‘art’ display that mocks the Blessed Virgin Mary despite previously telling the public it would be taking it down.
“In February, assistant vice president of communications Chris Knape said the school was going to be ‘relocating the piece to a space where it can be presented with greater context’ after outcry from students, local Catholics, and state lawmakers.
“The display was originally installed in the Kirkhof Student Center. It was created by GVSU alumna Irlanda Beltran and bought by the school for $1,800. Beltran identifies as ‘LatinX’ [a woke spelling of ‘Latina’] and claims her ‘artwork’ explores ‘cultural and contemporary issues, addressing topics such as gender-based violence, mental health, gun control, and homophobia.’ The display includes three digitally altered images of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The university is trying to please both sides by keeping the art and hiding it from the view of those who will be justly offended by it.
But when it comes to God and His Rights (as well as those of His mother), there is only one side to take. Putting blasphemy to a less-visible location still perpetuates this grave offense against God.
We must not stop until this blasphemy is permanently removed, and not be content if it is merely displayed in a more discreet location. Please sign our petition to GVSU, demanding the immediate removal of this anti-Catholic blasphemy and for an apology for allowing it.
