Notre Dame de Namur University, in Belmont, California, plans to host Nancy Pelosi as commencement speaker on May 2, even though she supports abortion, homosexual unions, and gender ideology. According to reports:
“A Catholic university in California will host former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as commencement speaker despite her long record of support for abortion, homosexual “marriage,” and chemical and surgical so-called “gender transitions” for children.
“Pelosi, a self-professed Catholic, is scheduled to speak at Notre Dame de Namur University, founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1851.”

And if this isn’t bad enough, the president of the university, Dr Beth Martin, stated the university is “deeply honored” to host the former Speaker of the House, while a press release from the university praised the congresswoman for her “courage” and “perseverance” in her public role.
Pelosi’s professional career is anything but Catholic. She has gone on record to call opposition to abortion “sinful,” she has supported homosexual “marriage,” and openly campaigned in support of “LGBT” lifestyle (i.e., unnatural vice). The former speaker’s positions are clearly contrary to Catholic teaching, and honoring her at a Catholic institution is a public scandal.
In fact, the former speaker’s positions are so scandalous that Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone told the former U.S. Speaker of the House not to present herself for Holy Communion in 2022: “…you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.”
We have reason to hope that we will be effective.
Earlier this year, an openly pro-abortion professor caved to pressure from Catholics, and turned down a position that Notre Dame in Indiana wanted to give her. Besides this, petitions have caused other “Catholic” universities to remove pro-abortion material from their websites.
Let us do all we can to ensure that abortion is not honored at a Catholic university. Please sign our petition to Notre Dame de Namur, demanding that they cancel Nancy Pelosi’s scheduled visit.
