“God” mocked by blasphemous play

I’m sorry to have to share this with you, but we have to get this play cancelled. In a nutshell, Constellation Stage & Screen is hosting a play which portrays “God” using lewd and vulgar language, and who is depicted in a selfish and vindictive way. An Act of God, a three-man performance, centers around a white-robed actor who plays “God” supported by two other white-robed figures representing Saint Michael and Saint Gabriel.

But make no mistake: this is not some pious representation, but a blasphemous dialogue laced with cynical and lewd language, as “God” and the “angels” re-interpret the modern world and Biblical stories. Constellation Stage & Screen will be hosting the play in December, and makes no qualms over the fact that it is offensive. In fact, the content warning for the performance reads: “Contains strong language, sexual innuendos, and general blasphemy.” (Source: seeconstellation .org; emphasis added)

Even worse, Constellation notes that the play — which takes place in during the Christmas season — is meant to mock Christmas in the play’s description: “Looking for an unholy way to spend the holidays? Skip the silent nights and join us for An Act of God, a wickedly funny comedy where God, with the help of angels Michael and Gabriel, delivers a brand-new set of commandments for the modern world… [T]his irreverent show answers life’s biggest questions with divine wit, sass, and plenty of surprises. An Act of God is blasphemous, inspiring, and guaranteed to leave you laughing all the way through the holidays!” (Source: ibid; emphasis added)

Here are just some of the contents of the upcoming play (WARNING: Disturbing and blasphemous material):

  •  God is portrayed as a haphazard, vulgar, and petty Creator who only makes rules to satisfy his own selfish whims, and no longer cares about human suffering or sin;
  •  “God” is portrayed as hating some sins just because he has to witness them, not because they contradict his nature;
  •  “God” says that he allows human suffering because “I’m a jealous, petty, sexist, racist, mass-murdering narcissist”;
  •  “God” creates a new set of the commandments. In the new second commandment, it is decreed: “Thou shalt not tell others whom to fornicate,” followed by the explanation, “Yes, I mean the gays”;
  •  “God” then relates that, in the beginning, he actually created man as homosexuals, Adam and Steve;
  •  As punishment for eating the forbidden fruit (which is re-interpreted as a tree to give homosexuals shame for their lifestyle) God performs a “sex operation” to turn Steve into a woman, and imposes “the harshest punishment possible: Transforming thee from carefree young [homosexual] lovers living in the heart of everything, to a married couple with kids stuck in the suburbs”;
  •  When speaking of the humans, “God” says they are created in his own selfish image and likeness with all its defects. “You are my best creation,” the dialogue reads, “and I’m your worst.”

There is much more that is so lewd and disrespectful to the person of God and common decency, that I simply cannot put it here.

Suffice it to say: we need to get this play cancelled!

God is under attack, and His laws and nature are being ridiculed. We must raise our voice in protest to affirm that we will not tolerate these attacks against God.

I protest against the lewd and blasphemous representation of God and His Creation as depicted in the upcoming play, "An Act of God."

Such vulgar and offensive material should never be allowed. Not only is it offensive to countless Christians, but is also an affront to God Himself and the religion of countless Americans.

I urge you to cancel this blasphemous performance at once and issue a public apology.

Sincerely and urgently,
