Disney is set to release a film called Hexed, an animated film which centers on a girl witch who discovers secret powers and enters into a world of witches. The film, which premiers in November 2026, centers around a girl named Billie Doe and her mother Alice. Billie lives as a social outcast, and discovers that she is actually a witch. She then stumbles into a world of witches called Hexe, where she and her mother learn to practice magic with other witches.
Hexed is directed at younger audiences (i.e., children and young adults), and its use of animation, bright colors and fast-paced action will certainly attract this age-group. According to reports:
“Hexed introduces audiences to Billie Doe, a spirited and unconventional teenager who has always sensed she was different. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she begins experiencing bizarre, unexplainable events – objects shifting on their own, sudden bursts of energy, and an intuition that borders on supernatural. When one of these incidents escalates, Billie accidentally unlocks her dormant magical abilities, opening a portal to Hexe, a secret realm inhabited entirely by witches.”

The above description is just the beginning. Here are some of the more shocking details about Hexed, demonstrating its use and promotion of witchcraft and occult symbolism:
- A coven (i.e., a gathering of witches practicing witchcraft together) is described in a positive light by one of the directors, Fawn Veerasunthorn: “Then there’s the idea of a coven, which is this group of people supporting each other.” (Source: cartoonbrew .com; emphasis added). Elsewhere, she said: “Magic is kind of a metaphor for their gift, their talent, the thing that sometimes gets misunderstood by other folks. There’s something about finding your coven and then thriving together.” (Source: laughingplace .com; emphasis added);
- Fawn Veerasunthorn also affirmed: “We did a lot of research on different types of magic … we wanted to ground it in something people can find a connection with, ” (Source: laughingplace.com; emphasis added); although the Veerasunthorn did not specify what “type of magic” they drew inspiration from, much appears that the “magic” referred to is Wiccan practice;
- The word “hex” refers to a witch’s spell or curse, derived from the Greek word for “six”;
- There is constant use of witch and occult imagery, as moon cycles splayed out, owls and black cats, a green witch with tarot cards floating about her, use of herbs and potions, while the directors even confessed to putting different phases of the moon reflected in Billie’s eyes throughout the film;
More and more films are introducing themes of witches and the occult. The film Minions and Monsters shocked families when the characters used sigils to summon monsters in the same way that Satanists summon demons.
This film jumps on the bandwagon to break the barriers of horror that we should have for evil and witchcraft by making it appear innocent, epic and in vogue. But the worst part about all of this is that it is directed to children!
