At the Western Conservative Summit with Return to Order

By Kevin Ritchie.

Wetern_SummitThe fourth annual Western Conservative Summit was organized by the Centennial Institute and Colorado Christian University on July 26-28 at the Hyatt Regency Denver. The conference was well organized, self-contained and packed with wall-to-wall talks, workshops, and breakout sessions. It was a perfect place for our table promoting the book, Return to Order: From a Frenzied Economy to an Organic Christian Society by John Horvat II.

About 1,700 people attended the event, up from 700 at the first such summit in 2010. Western_Conservative_SummitSome speakers were professors from the sponsoring Colorado Christian University. However, there was an array of popular conservative figures that included Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, Col. Allan West and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Attendees were generally Protestant with a smattering of Catholics. Since Return to Order was written from a Catholic perspective, I thought it might have an effect on book sales. However, I found that the message of the book resonated well from all those who stopped by our table. In fact, we sold all the books we had shipped in for the event.

I met all sorts of people ranging from government officials to students and even an America Needs Fatima Rosary Rally captain. All had one characteristic: a concern for the future of our nation. To this end, they bought copies of Return to Order and Revolution and Counter-revolution by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira. Several also expressed enthusiasm for the TFP Call to Chivalry camps for youth held every summer.
