The Italian diocese of Ventimiglia-San Remo has a church bell dedicated to unborn children. That doesn’t go down well with left-wing politicians.
On the Day of the Innocents
Bishop Antonio Suetta dedicated the church bell of his episcopal palace to the unborn children on December 28, 2025. On this day, the Church commemorates the mass murder of the innocent children, by Herod’s soldiers. (Math. 2:16-20.)
With the action, the bishop wants to make Italians aware of the unborn child and encourage prayer and reflection on the country’s abortion laws. The church bell bears the inscription “For all unborn children” and rings every evening at eight o’clock.
Left-wing politicians react critically to the initiative. A city councilor speaks of it as “moral propaganda” and a violation of “female self-determination.” A provincial politician states, “The diocese must question its priorities.”
Abortion Must Remain Hidden

The attitude of these politicians points to their own hypocrisy. If they truly believed that abortion helps women and benefits society, they would be happy to draw public attention to it. After all, if abortion is just a medical procedure, then the church bell is free advertising.
Of course, in their hearts, the abortion proponents understand that they can never effectively launder the murder of innocent children. Only this knowledge explains their diligent attempts to keep abortion secret by prohibiting the display of photos of aborted children and other signs of public penance.
Since abortion is legal but remains hidden, the bishop is concerned that people will become accustomed to it. Thus, they lose the awareness that abortion is sinful. The very frequency of the deadly procedure causes people to underestimate the medical and biological reality of what is happening, according to the bishop.
People Underestimate Abortion Reality
Dutch opinion research supports this claim. Opinion polls show that many people have a nonchalant attitude toward the abortion law. They often don’t realize that abortionists can kill viable children in the 24th week of pregnancy, even though many citizens favor a ban on such late-term procedures. Much support for abortion in the Netherlands, Italy and everywhere rests on ignorance.
