Letter Protests Misrepresentation of Great Generation

letter opener The March 7 weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal published a letter to the editor by Return to Order author John Horvat II. The text of the letter is below:

“As a baby boomer and son of parents from the Great Generation, I find David Barry’s “Parents Just Want to Have Fun” (Review, Feb. 28) to be a portrayal of both generations that is hardly representative and unbearably superficial.

Not all parents of baby boomers, like mine, attended wild cocktail parties every weekend or drank heavily. Most worked hard, raised families and lived normal lives. Not all boomers were party animals. In fact, what tragically ruined so many of the lives of us boomers were the things Mr. Barry considers sources of fun – drugs, premarital sex and binge drinking.”
