The Toledo Diocese Council of Catholic Women (TDCCW) held its yearly conference at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio. The event was held on October 16, and the program consisted of two talks by TFP author John Horvat to the nearly ninety women who attended.
Mr. Horvat presented the talk, “A Catholic Response to a Hostile Culture,” based on his book, Return to Order: From a Frenzied Economy to an Organic Christian Society—Where We’ve Been How We Got Here and Where We Need to Go. He appealed to the women to fulfill their unique role in society.
“You are involved in much of what is cultural. You are especially attuned to that which is beautiful. You are gifted with the ability to express affection, especially maternal affection. You have a special role in the formation and education of children that is irreplaceable. Embrace this role that only you can do.”
Mr. Horvat explained the need to engage the culture, especially by saying no to those attacking Faith and family. He explained the need to choose one’s battles efficiently. Catholic women should also passionately embrace the Faith and follow the voice of God’s grace in all their endeavors.
The second talk, “Applying the Little Way to Fatima,” demonstrated the important role of ordinary sacrifices as found in the message of Fatima and in the Little Way of Saint Therese of Lisieux. He especially related this action to the sacrifices of confronting the culture.
“This way that allows us to deal with the ordinary sacrifices big and small that will inevitably come to us, Mr. Horvat said. “And when these are done for the love of God, it multiplies our capacity and ability to sacrifice ourselves for God. We can do our daily sacrifices with joy despite all the disappointments that life brings.”

The event also featured an America Needs Fatima Rosary Rally and a lunch. Mr. Horvat had many opportunities to discuss the topics of the talks with the participants and signed Return to Order books for them.
